How to Play Tank Trouble 3D
Everything you need to go from first shot to last tank standing.
Tank Trouble 3D is a top-down arena shooter played directly in your browser. Each round drops up to four tanks into a randomly generated maze. Shells ricochet off walls, every tank goes down in a single hit, and the last tank alive wins the round. Rounds are short — usually well under a minute — so matches stay fast and chaotic.
Controls
- W A S D or the arrow keys — drive and steer your tank.
- Space — fire a shell.
Movement is tank-style: left and right rotate your hull, forward and back drive along the direction you are facing. Your barrel always points where your tank points, so aiming is a matter of positioning — there is no separate mouse aim. Mastering tight turns in narrow corridors is half the game.
Game modes
Solo
Click Start Solo Game to fight the Arena Bot, a computer-controlled tank that hunts you through the maze. Solo mode is the best place to learn how shell ricochets behave and to practice cornering before you take on real opponents.
Private rooms
Enter a room name and click Make Room to create a private lobby. The game generates a six-character room code — share it with up to three friends, and they can join instantly with Join Room. No downloads and no account required, though a free account saves your win/loss record and tank colors.

Ricocheting shells
Shells do not stop when they hit a wall — they bounce, up to a dozen times, before fizzling out. This is the defining mechanic of Tank Trouble 3D and it cuts both ways:
- You can bank shots around corners to hit opponents you cannot see.
- Your own shell can bounce back and destroy you. Firing down a short dead-end corridor is a classic self-destruct.
- A shell in flight stays dangerous for several seconds. Count the bounces before driving through a corridor a shot just entered.
Power-ups
Glowing pickups spawn around the maze during a round. Drive over one to collect it. Some grant a timed effect; others arm a special one-shot weapon that replaces your next shell.
| Power-up | Effect |
|---|---|
| Speed | Boosts your drive speed for six seconds. Great for closing distance or fleeing a ricochet. |
| Rapid Fire | Dramatically shortens your reload for six seconds, letting you flood a corridor with shells. |
| Shield | Absorbs the next hit that would have destroyed you. |
| Extra Bounce | Your shells ricochet substantially more times for eight seconds, making long bank shots possible. |
| Laser | Arms a piercing laser shot that travels instantly and bounces along walls far more than a normal shell. |
| Shotgun | For eight seconds your shots fire a spread of shells — devastating at close range. |
| Mine | Drops a proximity mine behind your tank. Anyone who drives too close, including you, sets it off. |
| Missile | Arms a homing missile that actively steers toward the nearest enemy tank. |
Rounds and scoring
Every tank has one life per round. When only one tank remains (or every tank is destroyed — mutual ricochet destruction happens more often than you would think), the round ends, the scoreboard updates, and a short countdown starts the next round in a freshly generated maze. If you are signed in, wins and losses are saved to your profile, along with your nemesis — the player who has beaten you the most.
